PTE Speaking is scored using a formula as explained below.

In the above table, the total points for Speaking are 380, and let’s assume that you acquired 300 total points.

This is the formula to calculate PTE overall score: total points you have collected is divided by overall total points and then multiplied by 90. So in the table above, that will come to around 71 (after rounding the numbers). So, in this particular case, the student will receive 71 in Speaking.

Students usually answer Speaking, Writing and Listening (Summarize Spoken Text) questions using a pre-formulated template. In the past, these templates have been helpful in achieving the desired score. These so-called templates are one size fits all answer solutions that do not make sense at all in relation to the real question. The scoring system has been fooled into giving you credit for fluency and pronunciation but you may lose these points for incorrect grammar and vocabulary as PTE scoring system is integrated. However, with the advances in Machine Learning and Automated Scoring System Artificial Intelligence (AI) – PTE scoring has become partial to answers that use templates.  Thus, fooling or cheating the computer on PTE Academic using templates can be disadvantageous or unproductive.

Definitely NO. PTE test has remained the same. Although the PTE test structure or PTE test format is changing from 16 November 2021, the PTE test remains the same with changes to the number of questions in each section. This has been proven because our students are able to score the same score as the previous students tested with old test structure.

To achieve your target in PTE, we recommend the following:

  1. Daily practice of recordings to differentiate between main points and supporting details in Listening section
  2. Regular 30-minute practice of text mapping to distinguish main idea sentence in Reading Section
  3. Regular speaking practice to improve your intonation pattern
  4. Regular writing practice to improve spelling, grammar and punctuation

These should be consistently practiced under guided supervision as you will not be able to figure out your own mistakes. You can also consult us to guided practice sessions.

The answer to this question lies in your own ability. If you already have competent English, then a few hours of the tutorial will be enough to navigate PTE easily. In a few cases, coaching helps because a PTE coach usually has years of experience and will be able to tell you whether a particular answer works or not.

If you are targeting 65+ or 79+ within a short time, then PTE coaching will help as the coach will point out your shortcomings and provide you with methods to improve your answers, which will eventually improve your score.
